On August 20, 2019, exactly 400 years after the first slave ship landed in Port Comfort, Virginia, African Genesis Institute, a Philadelphia based non-profit youth organization, broke ground on a 3.5 million dollar educational and residential beachfront complex in Elmina, Ghana, West Africa.
Situated on 4.5 acres along the shore of the Atlantic Ocean, when completed, “Juneteenth Village” will consist of a leadership academy and camp for African American students between the ages of 12 and 16. The structure will consist of 2 buildings and a cafeteria. Each building will accommodate 12 students and 2 instructors in a college dormitory type setting. The projected grand opening is August , 2022.
The complex also features 6 single family residential homes and 12 two bedroom condominiums ideal for those looking to relocate, retire or have a vacation home..
